Tammy Anderson-Owens- Thoughts

Why am I doing this job??

On those hectic days where I am working 12 to 14 hours a day I often ask myself why.  Then, suddenly, it comes to me.  Why - because I love to see the smile on a first time home buyers face when they are handed the keys to their first home.  Why - because I love to feel the excitement when someone is moving across town or across the country.  Their excitement spills over into my heart.  Why - the look on a child's face when they know they're going to get a swing-set in their new back yard.   There are a thousand whys and the why nots are very minimal.  Are there moments of sadness and sorrow in this job?  Sure there are,  but for the most part I LOVE MY JOB!  I come out of my deal with so much more than a paycheck.  I come out with a new friend or two.  I come out with satisfaction that I have done the best possible job for my new friend.

Many people think this is an easy job.  All they have to do is follow one of us around for a week and they change their mind quickly.  I remember when my grown nephew used to tell me that he should get his real estate license and after hanging around me for a few days he'll say now - Aunt Tammy, there's no way I could do your job.  But again the rewards are great!!

This isn't a job, it's a lifestyle!  I went from being a one person show 6 months ago with about 20 listings to being a 4 person team with 40 listings!  It's like running a small business and I love being one that started it all.  When one of my agents has a closing, it makes me smile.  When one of them have a problem that I am able to help them with, it satisfies me and when one of them figure a problem out on their own, it makes me proud!

So, when someone ask me if I like my job, I have to say no, I love it!!

I agree Tammy - it's not a job, it's a business.

Tammy -

Garreth is right - this IS a BUSINESS, subject to the ups and downs of any business.  You control your own destiny.  You're an entrepreneur!  And you can reach a far higher level of success than if you worked for someone in a conventional "job."

And, yes, you DO get to enjoy the smiles on the faces of first-time homebuyers, as they leave the closing table, keys to their new house in hand!

Things get frustrating some times, but I can't see myself doing anything else.

A couple of years ago, at a Floyd Wickman Training Event, Floyd asked everyone in the room to stand up.  He then asked the roughly 450 people standing if they would rather give up Real Estate, and go back to a 9 to 5 "Real Job" (whatever the heck that is), paying, say $100M.

Only a handful sat down!

Hang on, folks, for the benefits of the Real Estate Business outweigh the rocks in the road, long term.

Have faith!
